The Kponee-Shovein Business Grant Award was created with the purpose of providing small business grants for Rivers State indigènes. Each year, the foundation awards outstanding small business owners with a minimum of ₦100,000 to develop their business. Prior recipients of the grant are not eligible to apply in future cycles.

The foundation uses the following criteria in awarding its business grants
- Need, especially in cases where the candidate would be unable to sustain their business absent support.
- Demonstrated business acumen, as by a compelling business proposal, previous achievements, and recommendations.
- Leadership and commitment to the uplifting of Rivers State, the Nigerian nation, and the African continent.
The Foundation will begin accepting applications for all grants on September 1 and the application process will remain open until January 1 of the following year. Business grants will be directly disbursed to the recipients by the Chief Operating Officer.
